‘GRAIN Producers SA held its annual general meeting in Hahndorf today, attended by more than 30 members of the grain industry and relevant stakeholders.
GPSA chairman Adrian McCabe and chief executive officer Caroline Rhodes both gave updates on the strong position the representative organisation was in, plus changes to the board, with EP farmer Jared Sampson retiring and Peta Willmott stepping into the vacancy.
SA Grain Industry Trust chairman Max Young also gave a presentation on the projects being supported this year, including frost research, GM trials at Hart, the Calcareous Soils Project and a PhD project on herbicide residues, while outgoing Grain Producers Australia chair Andrew Weidemann also spoke, via video link, about its focuses this year, including a new online training platform for farmer issues, the WTO action initiated against China, spray drift management, Overwatch label changes, the Autonomy Code of Practice and addressing workforce issues.
Primary Industries Minister David Basham also addressed those in attendance and answered questions relating to the lens snail levy, pulse vaccination program at the Waite, Pastoral Act and SARDI funding cuts.
GPSA and Livestock SA are holding a special State Election 2022-focused forum early next year to replace this year’s postponed Growing SA conference, to provide further opportunity to the grains and livestock to communicate its policy priorities and engage with political candidates during the campaign.’

Tonight I attended the 🇦🇺 Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and Citizen of the Year Awards 🇦🇺 at City of Mitcham.
It was an absolute privilege to witness all of those who made the important decision to become Australian citizens 💙 Congratulations!
Citizenship is multifaceted; it goes beyond a simple legal status.
It encompasses rights, responsibilities, and a sense of belonging.
It is participation and access, and it benefits the overall well-being of individuals and societies in which they live.
To all of the citizen award winners and nominees, well done to you all and thank you for all that you do for your community 💙🇦🇺💙

Fantasic community engagement today at Coles Blackwood with David Speirs MP.
Thank you to the many community members who came out despite the torrential rain. We heard you loud and clear:
- Concern about health services and the ramping crisis
- Cost of living is hurting households
- The importance of small business in the community
- Better roads in Waite
- Continue to expand the bike path networks
- Support for families dealing with complicated aged care pathways
These listening posts are really important. They bring the community's voice straight to our Leadership team.
They are one of my favourite things to do as a representative in Parliament and I am already looking forward to the next one.
